School reopens amid safety check and COVID-19 response

 

As schools reopen on September 1, authorities in Jiangsu have taken a series of measures to ensure effective COVID-19 prevention and control, such as rigorous sanitation practices and safety inspection.

Xu Jinxiang, safety head of Jiangning School Bus Service, said Jiangning District’s educational department has cooperated with local police, urban management, subdistrict office and the company to have a thorough review of 266 bus routes to ensure safety.

Other cities including Yancheng, Huai’an, Lianyungang and Changzhou have also conducted comprehensive safety and performance checks of school buses. The vehicles management office in Changzhou has worked with bus service providers to test over 169 school buses in two days as well as a comprehensive disinfection.

In Huishan District of Wuxi City, the school bus monitoring system has been upgraded to apply new technologies that increase verification of drivers, monitoring of bus operation all through the journey, and provide early warning.

Schools in Jiangsu have also paid close attention to pandemic prevention efforts. The Experimental Elementary School in Yandu District of Yancheng City set up a safe access channel equipped with infrared thermometer for teachers and students. In Hutangqiao Second Experimental Primary School in Changzhou, new students took a drill to better respond to COVID-19.

Many schools have also adjusted students’ arrival and meal times to better follow social distancing suggestions. Jingcheng School in Suzhou Industrial Park has also implemented staggered start times and meal times.
