Renovation of Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge wins IBC award

Renovation of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, China’s first domestically-designed modern bridge over the river, has won an award for rail bridge by the 2020 International Bride Conference (IBC), the first in China to win the recognition.

China has six bridge projects recognized by IBC for distinction this year.

As the first double-decked road-rail truss bridge designed by China, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge in the eastern city of Nanjing first opened to traffic in 1968. Hailed as a national landmark, the bridge started renovation in October 2016 and reopened in December 2018 after 27 months. Renovation of the bridge has set a number of records as the bridge is also a cultural relic under protection.
